Featured DC Design House Artist: Liza Hathaway Matthews

Blog – Featured DC Design House artist: Liza Hathaway Matthews

Today were sharing the story of the incredible Liza Hathaway Matthews,  a contemporary, abstract artist who uses a contrast of luminous color, graceful form, and texture.  We absolutely adore her work and were lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with her this year in the 2017 D.C. Design House. Liza created the large piece of art, “Just a Feeling”, that sits just above the mantel.

As you browse her work below you will find her paintings are inspired from nature, design, and pattern. Liza holds a BFA in Painting and Interior Design from Maryland Institute, College of Art, and she has studied plein air and still life with members of the Shuler School Faculty. Her work has been featured in numerous publications such as House Beautiful, Luxe Interiors + Design and Home and Design

Matthews became more widely known for her work as hotels and magazines like House Beautiful asked for reproductions of her work . Her artwork translates beautifully to all home interiors such as pillows, textiles, wallpaper, paper, and more. The versatility that her artwork can be featured on is truly amazing! Here is an example of her art on stationary and pillows:

But, most important, she was discovered on Twitter by Cotton + Quill, a textile firm in Alabama. The company took two pieces, “Coral Crush” and “Purple Orchid,” recreating them in fabric and wallpaper and displayed them at the fall High Point Market trade show in North Carolina. They were such a success that two more pieces, “Silver Chinoiserie” and “Nude Chinoiserie,” will appear as fabric and wallpaper.

Be sure to see Liza’s stunning artwork up close in the living room of the 2017 D.C. Design House.  The specially curated “Just A Feeling” is an incredible must see that plays beautifully to the rich fabrics and crisp walls.  The D.C. Design House is open to the public from September 29 through October 30.  For more information, visit the official website at: DCDesignHouse
