If you close your eyes and dream of your perfect home, does it include beach or mountain views? City views from a high rise? I’m guessing there is some sort of view that means something special to you. One of the biggest design trends now embraces exterior views to make them a part of your home – it’s called Biophilic Design. So what exactly is Biophilic Design and why is it important in 2025?
Biophilic Design includes the following:
- Nature Integration – Large windows and glass walls that connect the indoors to the outdoors are a huge part of biophilic design. The goal is not only to make the view and the surrounding natural landscapes a focal point of interiors, but by extension, actually creating spaces where the view feels a part of the interior.
- Indoor Gardens and Green Walls – Adding plants and natural elements inside the home will bring the outside in, and this creates a sense of calm and balance.
- Natural Materials – Wood, stone and earthy textures will connect you with nature.

One of the most important aspects of biophilic design is the thought that one’s home doesn’t end with the walls and windows but, rather, extends beyond into the view beyond. So instead of bringing the outdoors in, as we’ve focused on in years past, we are carrying the indoors out past the glass. It’s a thought process but it creates an extension to the home, while still creating that feeling of safety inside one’s home.

Stay tuned for more information on Biophilic Design as we go in-depth in our future blogs. And now go outside and enjoy the day.
