We’re approaching the holidays, and it’s that time of year when relatives and friends travel far and wide for family reunions and special Thanksgiving dinners. Preparing the entire house for the guests can be a huge feat. But in thinking about your guests, you need to consider: Is your guestroom ready for them? Follow our quick tip guide below to make your guests feel extra special.
MWI Guide to the Perfect Guestroom
- Do you have at least two sets of new, super clean fluffy towels on hand and available for your guest? Place one set in the guestroom on the bed and one set in the guest bathroom.
- Fresh Flowers – Nothing says “Welcome” more than fresh flowers placed around the guestroom.
- Do you have extra toothbrushes, toothpaste and other sundries available and in site? Think of your favorite hotel. What amenities do they have in the hotel bathroom? Make sure to have at least those items.
- Do you have small bottles of shampoo and conditioner? How about lotion? And of course you have soap. That goes without saying!
- Do you have bottles of water and a couple of water glasses?
- How about a WiFi password listed somewhere?
- A clock?
- And extra blankets are a must.
- Do you have enough counter space on bedside tables and chests for the guests’ various items?
- Does the guestroom have an empty closet or dresser for the guests?
- Do you have small snacks for the guests? My favorites are granola bars and chocolates. If you have something locally made that’s super special as well.
- Set up a small coffee/ tea station – a single serve Keurig coffee maker with china cups and saucers is ideal.
- My most recent guestroom addition is the following – Along with your pretty towels, do you have a couple of either black, dark brown or dark blue hand towels? This is for that guest who might wipe her makeup off and get a bit of mascara on the hand towel. Always nice if it’s a dark color so it doesn’t show up and embarrass her!
- What about tissue boxes in both the bathroom and the bedroom?
- And then it’s important to have more than one trash can. Have one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom.
- What about chargers for iPhones, laptops and other electronics?
- You most definitely need a mirror in the bedroom – preferably two – a floor length mirror so your guests can check their clothing before dinner, and of course a couple of mirrors in the bathroom.
- We even provide a small fan in our guestroom in case our guests love a fan at night.
- If you really want to get luxurious, provide a fluffy robe or two. Rarely will a guest stuff their robe into a suitcase. So they might appreciate this additional amenity.
Now the real test – Actually stay in your guestroom overnight and see if you have everything you need. Yes, I mean YOU. This is the most important thing to do. You will quickly realize what your space is missing.
