The wait is finally over! Benjamin Moore has made their 2025 Color of the Year selection and it’s… it’s… a purple tone If you read our 2024 color blog post from earlier this year – you’d know that we thought the 2024 colors selected were mostly decent… but we wanted some purple. Benjamin Moore has fulfilled our Wish List with their selection of Cinnamon Slate – which is a gorgeous moody plum color that we love.

This color is the perfect blend of a plum-y purple and some subtle brown undertones which gives it an earthy quality. The earthiness of the color makes it a very versatile choice that can be used in a variety of design styles and spaces.
Why we love it
Over here at MWI – we always love an excuse to use purple. This one is such a great “neutral” to have in our arsenal. What makes this color so perfect is that it is very calm, but it still makes a bold statement. If you want to learn more about what colors “mean” go back to our color psychology articles. (Purple is associated with elegance, mystery, and creativity just to name a few). Using this darker purple color will create a cozy and warm atmosphere. A great choice for home offices, libraries, and bedrooms – this specific color is very versatile – and we’d love to see it on cabinetry and built-ins or in a super cozy family room. The deep purple tone creates a more intimate, restful atmosphere whereas a lighter purple color would make a space feel more open.

See how we paired Cinnamon Slate below. We’d love to design a moody library or a cozy family room with these materials.

Other 2025 Colors:
We may have jumped the gun a little bit with our excitement, as no other colors for 2025 have been revealed just yet… but we are hopeful that well love them just as much. Last year we were predicting that we would see an upturn in darker- moodier colors (which we would categorize this choice as). It also has the brown undertone which has been trending of late. Deep chocolatey browns are very popular right now in the fashion and design worlds – so we’d love to see a strong brown color selected for 2025. And of course, we’d also invite another purple hue. We are expecting to see other color of the year selections to have similar “buzz words” like calm, warm, comfortable, relaxed, adaptable, etc.

Are you as excited about Cinnamon Slate as we are? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
Stay Inspired,
